Looking for a typical souvenir from Dusseldorf perhaps for yourself or for your loved ones? Best known are the local drink, Killepitsch secondly a special mustard named Mostert, the figure of the cart wheeler, Radschläger and old beer, Altbier.
Killepitsch is a dark and rather bitter-sweet herb liqueur with an interesting history. Two friends sat in a bunker and brewed the idea of their own schnapps which was finally poured for the first time in 1955.
Altbier distinguishes itself as a special kind of brew. An absolute must, try this dark beer because it is drunk only in Dusseldorf and on the lower Rhine.
Mostert stands for a mustard which is produced touched with grape juice, thus developing an incomparable taste. Adam Bernhard Bergrath invented this recipe already in 1726.
Radschläger have the oldest tradition in Dusseldorf. Its origin cannot to be fixed in one single event. However, it is known that at the end of 19th century, children and youngsters were turning cartwheels on the street for a few cents. Out of this custom a tradition was born.
