With three autobahns leading just towards Cologne, three heading out to the east and two to the west, there is obviously heavy use of the road system. Rainy days cause chaos at rush hours, watch out for mondays and trade fair days and be aware that German drivers tend to drive very close, fast and tend not to look so far ahead as some other nationalities.
The roads are safe, some may hoop their horn but there is very, very little road rage. Before setting of, you may wish to check the motorway system for snarl-ups. Besides current jams, the authorities have a super system of calculating ahead. And it's available in English. Thanks and well done.
