Bread; part of the staple diet of many nations dotted around the planet and certainly most popular on German tables, whatever the occasion. Each and every part of town is dotted with bakers of all types and the variety of bread is enormous everywhere.
Manufacturing principles have naturally long reached this industry and several major players exist in the country, some with unlikely parent companies, and their outlets can be found on most corners. Opening hours are well regulated as are definitions and recipies.
Several small bakers display a deep passion for what they do and create excellent produce. Many offer breads and rolls made from organic ingredients, some offer service with a smile.
