Indeed, the weather in the lower Rhine region and snow fall are not comparable with Bavaria, Austria or Switzerland.
Considering the fact that the temperature does not often fall below zero, it is even more intriguing that a skiing championship, the FIS-cross-country skiing Worldcup, takes place in Dusseldorf when the banks of the Rhine are transformed into alpine skiing tracks.
4,000 cubic metres of snow to transform the Rhine shores in Dusseldorf into a white dream are produced specially for this event in the nearby Skihalle Neuss. On Saturday, the single sprint competitions will take place and on Sunday the team sprint will follow. Thanks to the huge number of sponsors, the event will also remain free of charge for spectators again this year. In addition to the world cup, family and sports programmes will take place. More than 350,000 people attended the event last year.
