The Café Heinemann - Chocolatier, Confectioner and Master Bakery Heinemann is a Düsseldorf institution and must stop on any visitors' itinerary. Originally from neighboring Mönchengladbach this family business has been in existence since 1932.
The Japanese simply adore the treats on offer here as do the local Düsseldorfers and numerous guests alike who flock to the flagship shop in the Vereinsbank Passage just off the Königsallee for top quality chocolates and patisserie.
The fruit cakes are seasonal - only quality fruit is used when it is at it's absolute best. Cakes and gateaux are baked according to the various traditional seasons, making Heinemann always worth a stop just to see what the specialty of on offer is today.
The powdery sugar dusted champagne truffles won the top prize from the Club Croqueurs de Chocolat du Japon.
Perfect gifts to take home - if you can resist the temptation of not dipping into the green and white packages yourself that is!
There are several Heinemann stores around town, in the neighbouring region and in Munich. Check the website for details.
They also make cakes to order and sell a small selection of their goods online.
