Fireworks will light the sky over Dusseldorf on 23 July when the St. Sebastianus Schützenverein, the shooting association, celebrates it's patron St. Appolinaris. For the visitors to one of the largest funfairs in Germany this means in total nine days of carnival fun.
The Kirmesplatz with its 4.5 Kilometer long front between Oberkassel and the Rheinkniebrücke will be the location of numerous historic and state of the art attractions and fairground rides. In fact, over 350 carefully chosen operators and vendors are part of the spectacle making sure you will find everything from Reibekuchen, a Rheinish potato specialty, wurstel and French goodies to rollercoasters and circus performances.
Since the over 690 year-old St. Sebastianus Schützenverein hold the Rheinwiesen dear, parking around the fairground will be prohibited.
About 4 million visitors – even from neighbouring countries – are expected; you would not want to miss such a huge event either, right?
