The unique atmosphere of traditional German Christmas is casting more and more visitors from all over the world under its spell every year. Historic Christmas Markets held in cities and smaller towns throughout the country are becoming increasingly popular due to the enchanting festive atmosphere they evoke.
Dusseldorf’s Christmas Markets are some of the most beautiful in Germany. Take a deep breath and step out of hectic pre-Christmas shopping. Many little booths throughout the whole city centre offer traditional German gingerbread, marzipan, roasted chestnuts or mulled wine. And one can also buy all kinds of Christmas merchandise and gifts to take home.
Artisan craftwork such as crib figures, toys, wood carvings, marionettes, candles or lambskin shoes make the perfect individual Christmas present. Six Christmas Markets across town commence on 17 November and run through to 23 December. They are open every weekday from 11am to 8pm, 9pm Fridays and Saturdays. Carefull: closesd on November 20.
Take a look also at the Königsallee, which wears its stunningly beautiful robe of lights at this time of year.
