The Arts Academy, Kunst Academy opened the in-house gallery in February 2005. With the help of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the city of Dusseldorf, five rooms were prepared in the old building of the Kunstgewerbeschule.

According to Prof. Dr. Siegfried Gohr, head of the Kunstakademie, it is not a commercially run gallery but a forum for professors of the academy. Also those students that have attained a certain recognition can show their pieces here.

At the beginning of each semester, a new exhibit is opened. An archive and certain publications promote the memory of the Kunstakademie together with the Galerie.
