Discovering a new country may be adventurous but settling down in a country is possibly one of the biggest adventures in one's life. The integration into the EU and the downsizing of the administrative machinery in the late 1990s Germany made it easier for Non-German-speakers to handle bureaucratic obstacles.

Every new citizen has to register at the registration office (Einwohnermeldeamt/Bürgeramt) within one week after having moved here.
