The Düsseldorf Dragons Rugby Club is part of the Turn- und Sportvereinigung Düsseldorf 1895 e.V. In the 1960’s, the Düsseldorf Dragons were a rugby team comprising of civilians and military personnel here in Düsseldorf. In fact the present head of the rugby department played for the team from 1966 until 1971.
The rugby club, which is still growing, has approximately 180 members, approximately 80 of which are male, 20 female and the remainder youth and children. Their members come from all parts of the world, such as Germany, Holland, France, England, South Africa, Australia and Japan.
There are two male teams, one each of the Regionalliga and the Verbandsliga. The teams are doing extremely well at present, both being top of their individual leagues and their aim for the near future is to rise into the 2nd division. The junior teams are doing very well in their tournaments as is the female team.
The grounds and club house are about 5 years old and the pitch is fitted out with floodlights, so that even in the winter months, training and matches can take place without the problem of failing light.
Anyone interested in the sport is very welcome to visit and get acquainted with it. They already cooperate with the junior school next door to the club and we are developing contact to the other junior schools in the area.
Training times:
Male players every Tuesday and Thursday from 18:45 hrs until 21:00 hrs.
Female players every Thursday from 18:45 hrs until 21:00 hrs.
For 6 to 12 year olds is on Saturday mornings from 10:00 hrs until 12:00 hrs.
For 13 year olds and older is on Wednesdays and Fridays from 18:30 hrs until 20:30 hrs.
