In Germany the RWE DEA Hamburg is the largest gas producer, the largest utility companies are E.ON Ruhrgas Essen, RWE Energy Dortmund. One can opt for any supplier but in Dusseldorf about 60% of the inhabitants rely on the Stadtwerke Dusseldorf.
With more than 2500 employees, the Stadtwerke Dusseldorf is one of the largest communal public utility companies in Germany. They have supplied gas since 1866 and produce about 6700 Million kWh of electricity per year. If you want to change your provider, one just needs an authorization, with which the Stadtwerke Dusseldorf is allowed to cancel the contract with the old supplier. One has to pay a fixed sum price per month and at the end of the year, an employee of the supplier reads the meter, after which either an additional payment is necessary or one will be reimbursed.
