Public Toilets, Bathrooms.

In 2005 the city of Dusseldorf undertook visible improvements to their public hygiene installations. New public washrooms, offentliche Toiletten and public urinals, city pissoirs, were built both in the city centre and the boroughs.

These oval shaped and silver coloured temples of relief of the Wall AG are clean, modern and well equipped. Unfortunately they are not for free, but well worth an investment of 30 cents. In addition to the small and free-standing constructions one can find public toilets in all public buildings, such as the Central Station, the Civic centre, hospitals or the University. Heinrich-Heine-Allee U-Bahn station is the only underground station to host public toilets, otherwise one can find customer toilets in all larger stores and shopping centres.

It should be mentioned that most toilets where cleaning personnel are employed, except those in restaurants and bars, are not for free. In most cases one can find small tables with saucers on them for small tips of up to fifty cents. Often the expected amount of what to tip is impudently announced on little posters in the washing rooms. If there is no indication or if no one is watching one can feel free not to give a cent. Just remember, tips are these peoples' source of income.
