Civil Law Notaries.
The duties and tasks of civil law notaries should not be confused with notaries public in Anglo-Saxon countries. Civil law notaries are experts in such areas as conveying and registering property, drafting contracts, commercial transactions, inheritance and other estate-related matters.
They are usually not permitted to appear before tribunals or courts on behalf of their clients. Notaries in Germany chiefly engage in drafting, authenticating and archiving important transaction documents.
