People love to party here and Halloween is a great opportunity. Trick or treating is not the craze in Germany it is in the United States so the doorbell won't necessarily be ringing. The shops are, however, full of fancy dress for those who love to wear costumes and also various articles with which to decorate the home.
Pumpkins have become very popular here too, with many varieties on sale. Enormous cheap ones to be sculptured can be found in the supermarkets and delicious specialities on local farmers' markets. Since Halloween falls on a Sunday with Monday a bank holiday this year, Dusseldorf will certainly celebrate the occasion. Places to try out are the popular Stahlwerk, Nachtresidenz and 3001 where events have been held for several years.
